Just in case you're wondering, "what's with the topic? full moon what?" which I believe something that many of us probably have never heard before. As for me, this word has become very familiar when 7 out 10 of my Chinese customers placed their diaper cake orders for a full moon baby celaebration.
At first I thought it was something like baby shower celebration or a practice according to Chinese custom for being cukup-9-bulan-yeay-baby-going-to-pop-out-soon! kind of thing but heck, it was not. Haha!
Thank you to my customer; Sabrina, for explaining the general bits of it including the part of preferably no animal theme, especially monkey because Chinese seniors are a bit pantang about it.
By the way , here's some info about baby full moon that I found on Baby Centre website:
According to Chinese custom, when a baby turns one month old, a ceremony is held to celebrate her first month of life (the Chinese term translates as "full moon"). This coincides with the end of the new mum's confinement period and both mother and baby are formally introduced to the extended family and friends for the first time.
Before the unveiling party, the baby traditionally undergoes a host of rituals. Once that is over, a party is held to celebrate the health of the baby. Relatives and friends gather to give their blessings and gifts to the new baby, and traditional treats such asang ku kueh and red eggs are featured.
During the full moon celebration, relatives and friends will give money in ang paus(red packets) and jewellery to the newborn. Today, parents and the newborn receive modern gifts too, such as clothing, toys, books and gift vouchers (and now diaper cakes!) Hehehe....It's like a Western baby shower only celebrated a month later!
Speaking of which, here another two diaper cakes that I made over the weekend for a full moon baby gifts and another creation for one year old birthday present!
Happy viewing people :)
